"Come Nai, it is only a matter of steps."

Nairobi was stuck. Not in sand, but in a choice. The young impala remembered here mother's words as if it were only yesterday. The day the riverbeasts had taken her mother's life. Nairobi shuddered. The riverbeasts were scaly and had long, armored bodies. Their long jaws had teeth, sharp as knives, sticking out every which way. And when they opened their mouths....

Nai observed the placid river-top, eyes flickering to a few bubbles coming to the surface. Was it safe? The fae impala testily touched the edge with one of her small hooves. Ripple swirled out. Nothing else. Nai took a few cautious steps forward. And it happened.

One of the riverbeasts appeared at the surface, surging towards here. Nairobi turned and forced her way through the water, yes! She was back on shore. Breathing hard, Nai watched the riverbeast. It turned away. Could she ever cross?

Osi flexed his powerful legs, strutting forward in an utmost important matter. In reality, Osidaeus was a comical figure. A tall, pink neck and miniscule wings and long naked legs, not to mention the peanut head and wee tail. But at the same time, Osidaeus was awe-inspiring. Ostriches were powerful birds, and the largest alive.

Osi arrived a few struts away from the river bank, already lowering his head to dip his beak into the waters, when he heard a terrified thrashing.
